Sugarlands Moonshine Distillery

Sugarlands Moonshine Distillery in Gatlinburg is our go-to place. Every time we go to the downtown area, we always stop in here for moonshine tastings. That is why this is the first post you see under the Gatlinburg distilleries and wineries category on our website!

Sugarlands has an atmosphere that can’t be beat. Every time that we go into Sugarlands for a tasting, you stand around a circle with the “bartender” in the middle. The bartender is animated, tells jokes, and provides a down-home, back-woods feel. By the time you walk away from your twelve moonshine samples, you are in a good mood and typically have shared many laughs.

There have been times that we’ve went for tastings and one of the other guests brings some kind of snack to pass around to the other guests.

What’s more about Sugarlands Moonshine Distillery – their price has always been $5 for moonshine tastings. Each guest gets a wristband to show that their ID has been checked and the amount paid – but that wristband also doubles as a $5 coupon for your purchase.

Stack as many wristbands as you want on a purchase! We have seen posts on Facebook where others have stocked up 30+ wristbands and were able to nearly get a free six pack of moonshine! Those wristbands are money!

The other thing we like about Sugarlands – all of their moonshine options are one cost. No matter if you like the straight corn whiskey / corn moonshine or want a cream moonshine with less octane, the price is all the same.

Be sure to stop in at Sugarlands Moonshine Distillery when you are in town!

Ole Smoky Distillery

Ole Smoky Distillery has two locations on the Gatlinburg strip. Each location has different offerings.

The Ole Smoky Distillery in “The Holler” area (903 Parkway) is one and “The Barrelhouse”, is right on the strip (650 Parkway) is the other option.

Both locations offering different moonshine and whiskey options. The Holler is where you find your typical mason jar moonshine – whereas The Barrelhouse, you find the whiskey bottle options.

Ole Smoky also offers something called the “Hooch Hop”. This is a punch card. If you visit all three of their locations (two in Gatlinburg and one at The Island in Pigeon Forge), you can get a free t-shirt. There is a catch though – some kind of purchase must be done at each location to qualify. But hey – it still is enough to get fans to get a free t-shirt!

As of the time of this post, they offer two tasting options. However, be careful – when you to go the tastings, they will assume that you want the premium tasting. You will need to speak up and let them know if you want the other one.

The regular tasting is $5 per person and includes moonshine and whiskey samples. The premium tasting is $8 per person which includes three additional samples. A $5 coupon is provided to each guest that can be used for a purchase – but only up to two coupons can be used in a transaction.

In our prior post, I mentioned Sugarlands Moonshine Distillery. Both my wife and I are fans of Sugarlands over Ole’ Smoky for the fact that you can stack as many wristbands ($5 coupons) on a single purchase. Sugarlands also only offers a $5 tasting option which gives you 12 different tastings – no upselling of a premium package. There are even posts on Facebook where folks have saved up 30+ wristbands and got a “free” six-pack!

Tennessee Shine Company

One of the most overlooked moonshine places in Gatlinburg is Tennessee Shine Company.

The main reason for this is the location. It isn’t in the main central area of the Gatlinburg strip – but it is more towards the front of the strip if you are coming from the Pigeon Forge area. But – that doesn’t mean it is a place to pass up!

Tennessee Shine Company will sometimes run promotions on Groupon. It isn’t a “regular offering” available all the time, but it comes and goes. As we recommend to our guests, always check out Groupon a week or two before your trip and check back a few days before to see if there is anything else.

Tennessee Shine Company offers several varieties of moonshine tastings. They have typical varieties that the other places have in addition to some of their own like moon pie, keylime cream, and more.

Bootleggers Homemade Wine

Bootleggers Homemade Wine is located over in “The Holler” along the main Gatlinburg strip. You can’t miss it – just like the picture shows, it says “WINERY” in big, bold letters above their door.

Another one of my wife’s favorite places, she usually will walk out with a three-pack in a box with each trip.

There are some interesting flavors at Bootleggers Homemade Wine in Gatlinburg – including cookies and cream, cotton candy, chocolate fudge cream, and redneck reserve.

Like all of the places along the Gatlinburg strip, they offer free tastings. A VIP experience is also available if you are part of the Gatlinburg Wine Trail. This wine trail gives you a better experience at five different wineries in the Gatlinburg area – and you have seven days to visit.

Gatlinburg Winery

Gatlinburg Winery – to us – is known for one thing: cotton candy wine!

My wife loves the cotton candy wine. No other place sells this beverage that we found. They have a few different types of cotton candy wine including cotton candy peach and cotton candy blueberry wine.

But it isn’t just about the cotton candy wine at the Gatlinburg Winery – they have several other options as well. Other interesting flavors include keylime cheesecake and orange sherbet.

Like all of the places along the Gatlinburg strip, they offer free tastings of their fermented beverage.
